News Clips

This little guy ran up to me and I was thrilled. However, his parents were not and they quickly derailed his trail. I love this time of the year when I can see these golden babies running amuck in our favorite park. Once or twice, I have had to pick up a lost gosling and place it with parents who adhere to “the more the better.” Some parents will try to kill a lonely gosling who does not own their scent that attempts to join their clan. I have exercised caution with placement.

Good News Clip:

Wednesday night we heard a Canadian Christian speak, relaying God’s handiwork in Canada. People are coming to Christ via having Bibles placed in their hands. His stories were miraculous and we were all deeply blessed. It is amazing how many people serve the LORD as pastors and missionaries after coming to Christ through the best evangelistic tool—the Bible.

This speaker also addressed Canada‘s very liberal government; however, God has been good, as He has set in place a new Prime Minister, Stephen Harperwho is a Christian and totally supports Israel. Praise the LORD!

I heard on the news today that people are in an uproar with our American administration calling our military personnel and conservatives— terrorists. Hopefully, legal changes will ensue with Homeland Security directives.

Not So Good News Clips:

Parental Rights Removed—More Government Control Over Parents:

An official with the U.S. Food and Drug ordered FDA officials to make Plan B (morning after pill) available over-the-counter to minors as young as 17. The Department of Justice should be called in to defend the FDA guidelines on Plan B. However, the Obama administration has decided to roll over and accept the court decision without a single appeal. Essentially, the President is allowing a lone federal district judge to make a scientific decision that affects the health and safety of women across America.

Hillary Traveling the Road of Murder:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated that her department would work to overturn pro-life legislation in other countries. Very distressing indeed! May God intervene. Clinton was asked pointedly by Reps. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) and Jeff Fortenberry (R-Nebr.) whether “reproductive health” (as defined by this administration) would include abortion and she replied “yes.”

Hate Crime Prejudice:

Under the new “Hate Crime” bill, people who commit certain crimes would face stiffer punishment for any prejudice they might have toward homosexuals and transgenders. In essence, it singles out some Americans for “extra protection” under the law based upon their sexual behavior. Thanks to the stack of amendments by some republicans things were delayed. They highlighted the absurdity of the bill by asking Democrats to extend the same unique status to the elderly, the military, pregnant women, and the unborn. Every Democrat who was present at the hearing voted against adding these groups as a “protected class.” Their prejudice is notably evident.

One of the Best Days of My Life

I had my socks blessed off me when I experienced one of the best days of my life.  I went with three other ladies to pass out Bibles to medical facilities. The Lord worked beyond what we could ask or think!  He opened doors to place His Word in needy hands.  Yes, we had some refusals, but over all, most were very happy to have Bibles placed in their offices.  In the back of these New Testaments (which include Psalms & Proverbs) is the salvation message and helpful ministry tools are in the front.

One lovely lady, who I offered a New Testament to, reached out and received it as one receiving a precious and costly jewel. May her beaming face stay implanted in my mind. Another lady in a waiting room gratefully took a Testament from me and immediately started reading.  May these two ladies and all who received Bibles be saved!

One sweet physical therapist graciously thanked us for what we were doing. She powerfully gleamed with the love of the Holy Spirit.  Another man in an office accounted to us how he was most thankful for our ministry as he received a Testament when he was in the military.

One of our ladies blessed me by her boldness at one office.  I had asked a receptionist if we could leave a Bible for their patrons and she strongly replied that the doctor wouldn’t allow it.  She was very firm, unfriendly and held a spiteful countenance.  I did not dare offer her a New Testament gift, but the lady who was with me was not intimidated and offered one to her.  The lady appeared offended at first—as if she was not going to refuse it, but then her countenance changed and she received it with a half-smile and a thank you. I was so grateful for my bold accomplice!

All our ladies were blessed beyond belief. One placed a Testament in the hands of a woman that was extremely thrilled to receive one. She joyfully revealed she had not received one since grade school.  The lady who placed it in her hand loves passing out Testaments as she received one as a child and it meant so much to her.  My husband, Alan, received one when men came into his grade school and presented Testaments to all the children.  A few decades ago, Bibles were freely dispersed in America’s schoolrooms. Looking at our country’s history it is interesting to note that the Bible was read in public school classrooms, holding an essential part in education.  Teachers would state they were now going to read God’s Word when opening to a text.

We know a bold high school public school teacher who at one time relayed to Alan and others that he keeps Testaments in his lower desk drawer to have available for secular students. He gives out approximately 100 a year.  He also keeps a Bible on his desk. Last year a student stated to him that he could not have a Bible on his desk and he knew as his father was a member of the ACLU.  A large Russian exchange student approached the instructor’s desk and boldly stated, “Don’t ever say anything against the Bible as my father’s life was saved through a Bible.” One had been given to his father when he was drunk. His father was an alcoholic with failing health.  His father went home and read the Bible and was saved.  His wife and three children (this boy included) also received Christ.

I was also touched by a story in a newsletter, which told of Maria and Anna. They are cousins and were traveling to Uruguay. They overheard a meeting were testimonies were being shared in a restaurant. This night, by ordained appointment, they learned who had placed the precious Word in their hotel that had changed and saved their lives.

Seven years previous, these cousins were vacationing in Buenos Aires when they discovered a Gideon New Testament in their hotel room.  Both of them wanted to read it so they took turns.  Anna stated “It was like one of us would have the little book for breakfast, the other for lunch and the other for dinner.”  Maria shared further “It was the presence of God in my life coming as a little book … God put this treasure in my way, and He has changed my life in ways I could not begin to explain.”  The cousins received the Word together and salvation together.
As a side note, I would like to ask Christians to inquire at medical facilities if they have a Bible on hand to read. This will encourage them to have Bibles available in waiting areas.

Lost Ones Found

I am always blessed when I hear of hurting people finding everlasting hope. My husband, Alan, told me recently of an Idaho prisoner who was handed a Gideon Bible, which he put to work—making cigarettes—its pages being perfectly suited for rolling tobacco. In time, curiosity got the best of this offender and he started reading what he rolled. It didn’t take long before he surrendered his life to Christ. A former chaplain who still visits with prisoners relayed this to Alan who was greatly uplifted and he passed it on to me for my blessing.

Another blessing came our way when we heard this testimony: A prostitute on a desperately dark night planned to commit her suicide, having plummeted to the bottom of despair and loneliness. Before committing this fatal act, she felt she should pen a note—isn’t that what everyone does at such a time? The wallpaper hanging off the wall in her filthy and rundown hotel room caught her eye, the only available paper in her lifeless quarters. Upon it, she would write her death farewell. Her mental preparation became interrupted when she caught sight of a Gideon Bible. She had noticed this book before in the numerous hotel rooms she had occupied for pleasure sake. She even looked through it on occasion, sometimes reading left notes. But it meant nothing to her, it was simply an item of question—who left it for her and why? This night, it somehow appeared different and it attracted her heart. She took hold of it and started feeding on its pages in all belief.

The saving grace of salvation poured out to this victim of hopelessness on that fateful eve, saving her from self-destruction and doomed destruction. Isn’t it a blessing to know that God is at work everywhere exercising His unconditional love, reaching out to all who are lost; John 12:32 and 3:16?  He is reaching out to you if you do not know Him.

Jesus Christ died on the cross, shedding His blood for your wrong conduct and mine (John 3:16 and Roman 3:23-26), and came back to life—being raised from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-7). Jesus Christ now lives eternally in heaven, as true Christians will one day.  In heaven, Christians will be set free from all sin, pain and sorrow—this resulting in unending joy. Christians still sin here on the earth and need to ask forgiveness when they act wrongly (1 John 1:9). However, obedient Christians are no longer held in sin’s slavery (Romans 6:5-6).

God does ask that you count the cost before you choose to follow Christ and become a Christian.  God does change desires and behavior and you can lose friends as you strive to please a righteous and holy God.  You can be terribly mistreated and hated for loving Him. Yet, the immeasurable benefits are worth it all.
